Wild Assets x Stack Carbon: First ERW Asset in Uganda

Last week we welcomed Stack Carbon to our portfolio. This is our largest ERW offtake agreement to date, and our first asset in Africa.

Stack Carbon, led by CEO Bashir Dan, spreads pulverized basalt into agricultural soil in Uganda. The project has already onboarded over 1,500 smallholder farmers, who may benefit from improved crops and better land resilience. The Rainbow Standard ERW methodology provides an extensive MRV process that ensures accurate baseline measurements, proven additionality and ethical execution.

Our trust in Stack Carbon originates from two sources: the demonstrated conduct of the team - in the field, in the lab, with the standard setters and during the commercial process with Wild Assets - and on the thoughtful fit of the project to the geographic characteristics of the region. These traits include a fertile, moist and biologically active agricultural soil, tropical weather, and abundance of suitable feedstock within a short distance from the deployment site.

We also believe that ERW offers an equitable pathway for CDR in developing economies, combining a high premium due to durability, a moderate-low CAPEX investment, and long-lasting benefits to the people on the ground. We are proud and excited to back a project that is initiated, built and executed by local entrepreneurs with a global infrastructure of knowledge.
